Provision of a children's play area. After several months of investigation the Parish Council has accepted that it is unlikely that a children's play area can be provided on the playing field. The Parish Council is therefore going to start looking for alternative sites. It was agreed that a survey of all households in Sharow should be carried out to determine the level of support for a children's play area, to ask for suggestions of possible locations and for volunteers to help progress proposals. Please watch out for a copy of the survey form then complete and return it to the Parish Council.

Parking on Church Close. Concerns were raised about vehicles parking on Church Close. Itwould be appreciated if vehicles could use the car park whenever possible, and park considerately to allow pedestrians to use the footpaths and other vehicles to use the road.

Dog micro-chipping clinic. Anyone interested is invited to contact the Clerk of Sharow Parish Council. Tel. 01765 635099.

Presentation to the retiring Chair of Sharow Parish Council.

Apresentation of garden vouchers was made to John Irvin, the retiring Chair of Sharow Parish Council at the meeting of the Council on Monday the 8th October. Councillor Irvin has served on the Council for 28 years and has been Chair for the past 15 years. Paying tribute John Bushell, the current Chair, referred to Councillor Irvin’s dedication and commitment and the ways in which he had given unstintingly of his time and care to village matters as well as representing the Council and other parish councils on a number of district and county committees. Among the achievements under his leadership have been the introductions of speed limits and traffic calming, as well as improvements to footpaths and street lighting. In response John Irvin recalled his early days on the Council when it was part of a joint council with neighbouring villages and he expressed his appreciation for the support of fellow councillors over the years.

After a turbulent period Sharow Parish Council is now, hopefully, in a more settled routine. My mother, Aila Peacock, and I, Iona Appleyard, would like to introduce ourselves as the recently appointed Clerks to Sharow Parish Council. I live in North Stainley and am already Clerk to four other local Parish Councils. Aila, who lives in North Leeds, is new to Parish Councils although she has considerable administrative experience in other areas. If you would like to contact us, please do so using one of the following methods:

c/o The Old Keys, North Stainley, Ripon, HG4 3HT Tel: 01765-635099    E-mail: sharowparishcouncil@yahoo.co.uk

There are two other new faces at the Parish Council – Councillors Emma Stamper and Gayle Oakes. Both are keen to work with the existing members of the Council (John Bushell [Chairman], David Dale, Angie Grundy, Chris Long and Rosemary Triffitt) for the benefit of the Parish.

The Parish Council has agreed to meet on the first Monday of each month for the rest of the year. The December meeting will be a full ordinary Parish Council meeting, the November one to consider any planning applications.

I am sure the Councillors and my mother would join me saying that we look forward to serving you in the future.
